Hospital英式和美式的區別大嗎

in hospital 和 in the hospital 的區別只有在英式英語才有，美式英語是沒有區別的。

英式英語：

1）in hospital = 病人，生病在醫院裏躺着

My brother was hit by a car and he is in hospital now.（英式英語：表示病人）

2）in the hospital = 拜訪的人，或是在醫院工作的人（比如醫生和護士）。今本上不是住院的病人都可以用 in the hospital.

My brother was hit by a car， and I am going to visit him in the hospital.（英式英語：表示住院了，而我要去探望他，但我本身不是病人）

美式英語：

1）in hospital = in the hospital = 既可以是住院病人，也可以是工作者，或是拜訪者。如何區別在於句子的語義。比如：

My brother was hit by a car and he is in the hospital now.（美式英語：表示病人）

在英語的語法中，定冠詞 the 特指建築物，表示這個建築物有關的人。而沒有了定冠詞 the，表示這個建築物可以提供什麼服務。

類似這樣的還有in class = 在上課

in the class =在教室裏，但不一定在上課
