many 的用法:
1、 表示“許多”， 修飾或代替可數名詞（複數），與 few（少數）相對。
We don't have very many copies left.
我們所剩的冊數不多。
You can't have one each. We haven't got many.
你們不能一人一個。我們沒有很多。
2、 關於many of
(1) 其後接名詞時，該名詞通常應是特指的（比如有the， these， those， my， our， Tom’s等修飾）。如：
Many of the books are mine.
很多書都是我的。
Many of those most affected are elderly.
受影響最大的人中很多都是上了年紀的。
Many of these poems bear witness to his years spent in India and China.
這些詩中有很多見證了他在印度和中國度過的歲月。

(4) 在人稱代詞前總是用many of，其中的of不能沒有。如：
Many of us were too tired to go further.

Many of them can speak two or three or more languages.

3、 可與 more 連用，之後接複數名詞。如：

Many people support the government， but many more are against it.

另外，其後修飾的不是名詞，而是形容詞或副詞，則用much more，不用many more。如：

4、 注意“many a+單數可數名詞”的用法：形式上為單數，但意義上為複數（意為“許多”），若用作主語，其謂語通常與形式一致而不與意義一致（即謂語用單數）。如：
Many a young man has tried and failed.
很多年輕人都試過，而且失敗了。
Many a customer has been lost through negligence of service.
由於服務不周失去了許多老主顧。
Many a student fails to pass on the examination.
許多學生考試不及格。
Many a mother tries to act out her unrealized dreams through her daughter.

注意，“many a+單數名詞”是一個十分正式的結構，在口語或非正式文體中一般都用“many+複數名詞”代之。
5、 與a great /good number of， a great /good amount of等表達不同，a great/good many後接名詞時，不用介詞of。如：
I’ve known her for a great many years.
我認識她好多年了。
A great many people were at the meeting.
很多人蔘加了會。
A great many changes have happened in the neighbourhood， since you went away.
